Mahamaya Snanghat Temple

Mahamaya Snanghat Temple is located on the bank of Tipkai River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra in Khoraghat area of Kokrajhar. This is an important place where thousands of pilgrims visit throughout the year. This temple is located a few kilometres from the main temple known as the Mahamaya Than. The presiding deity of this temple is Goddess Mahamaya. It is believed that the deity Mahamaya used to take bath at the Snan Ghat in ancient times. Due to this reason, the place came to known as Mahamaya Snan Ghat. The Shakti Yagya is one of the most important rituals performed at the Mahamaya Snanghat Temple.

Rabbit trap

Junthi, a trap used for capturing rabbit is made of finely skinned bamboo straws delicately tied with plastic ropes. The bamboo straws are tied together in U-Shape. Nylon threads are delicately wrapped around the surface of the trap. At the both ends of the bamboo straws, the threads are used to tie together in a knot. A cluster of thin bamboo strips are tied together at the middle of the trap. Multiple traps of the same shape are prepared, tied together and placed in the field. These traps are normally used around the vege-cultural farms.

Plunge basket

Pholo, a conical shaped plunge basket, open at both ends is made of bamboo strips used for fishing in shallow, knee deep still water of beels, backwater, ponds, and paddy fields. The fishers plunge the basket in shallow waters forcing the spiked sharp ends into the mud with one hand and groping inside with the other hand to take out the fish that may have impounded in it. The vertical bamboo strips are tied with cane ropes and locked by flexible plastic wires. The upper side is narrow and lower side is wide. Pholo is mostly used for fishing in low and muddy water.
