Bamboo fish container

Khobai is fishing equipment which is used to store fish while fishing. The pitcher shaped container is made of bamboo, and sometime cane is also used to tie the knots. In the neck of the Khobai, a jute rope or cane wire is connected which is used to tie on the waist of the fishermen to keep the catches during the fishing operations. This is a common fishing implement used by many communities in Assam.

Perforated vessel

It is a medium size short-necked globular vessel. The rim is slightly carved to outer lip. It has a good number of perforations at the base. This vessel is especially used for preparing the distilled rice beer, the fermented alcoholic beverage. There are three vessels used to make distilled rice beer and this vessel is kept in the middle part from which one spout or pipe is connected to another container in which distilled rice beer is stored.

Wooden grinding tool

Ual or Ural is a grinding tool used by the Bodo people. To prepare this object, a circular core is carved out from a tree trunk and by trimming its outer belly. A cylindrical tool is used for pounding or ramming the substance to be grounded. The Bodos usually use the Ual or Ural for grinding rice, besides spices, medicine, herbs etc. It is a traditional house chore of the people of Bodo community.

Large earthen vessel

Zonga is a kind of earthen pot which is used by the Bodo people in preparing rice beer. It is conventionally bigger in size compared to normal earthen pots. The earthen pot is grey and little reddish in colour, with small designs around the neck. It is normally prepared by hand instead of using wheel. The fermented rice is stored in the Zonga for a period of 4-10 days for the beer to seep out. It is one of the oldest ways of preparing rice beer prevalent among the ethnic communities.
