Sieving basket

This conical shaped basket is made of thin bamboo strips. The body of the conical shell is wide on the top and the lower tip is pointed. A handle of lean rope is attached with the wide edges on the top for batter grip in hanging purposes. Generally, this basket is used for sieving at the time of preparing rice beer while separating the liquid from the rice. It is also used while preparing alkali from bamboo ash.

Small stool

A pira is a short two-legged stool made of wood generally for sitting purpose. A flat piece of wood in square or rectangular shape is supported with two elongated wooden legs of short height on opposite sides to prepare a pira. They can vary in shape and size. A pira can be found in almost every household in rural Assam used for generations. People use them when guests visit their house, or while cooking in the kitchen, or washing utensils, or even during winters sitting by the fire. Moreover, these are essential during marriage ceremonies among the Bodos and other communities in Assam.
